Exploring Genoa and Liguria with Stanley Tucci

When Stanley Tucci and the team of Searching for Italy visited Liguria, I had the incredible honor of showing them around Genoa, and giving them tips about where to go in the rest of the region too. In the Liguria episode, you’ll see us walking through Genoa’s winding streets, tasting its famous focaccia, and diving into the rich history and culinary traditions of this beautiful region.

Stanley’s genuine curiosity and appreciation for Ligurian food and culture made sharing my passion for the region even more special. From introducing him to some of my favorite spots to sharing a glass of wine and some funny stories, it was a day full of laughter, learning, and, of course, delicious food.

Where we went: My Culinary Tour of Genoa with Stanley Tucci

Not every special spot I wanted to visit with Stanley Tucci made it into the final cut of Searching for Italy, but the places we did explore together showcased the heart and soul of Genoa’s food culture.

We started at one of my all-time favorite places for focaccia, Antico Forno della Casana, tucked in a narrow alleyway. From there, we wandered to the Bottega dello Stoccafisso, a historic shop dedicated to dried cod, a cornerstone of Ligurian cuisine.

Next, we admired the elegant windows of Confetteria Romanengo, a confectionery that has been creating artisanal sweets for centuries—its candied fruits and chocolates are a true work of art. And, to end the day on a high note, we dined at Ivano Ricchebono’s Michelin-starred The Cook, where every bite was a perfect reflection of Genoa’s culinary excellence. I also pointed him towards Roberto Panizza’s Il Genovese for pesto, and Ittiturismo Corniglia for the freshest fish around.

It was an unforgettable journey through some of the region’s finest flavors, blending tradition and innovation in every stop.
